Private Canal Cruise & Boat Tours Amsterdam
Step aboard a restored 1912–1920 saloon boat for a fully private canal cruise through Amsterdam's UNESCO-listed waterways — your own boat, your own captain, your own route. From €250/hr, welcome drink included.
Experience a luxury private canal cruise with Boatboys Amsterdam. Our private boat tours Amsterdam start from €250/hr, including a local captain, a welcome drink, and all taxes and fees — no hidden costs.
Set sail aboard one of our completely restored, historic saloon boats — Undine, Tzar or Ritz. Each is fitted with a retractable roof, an open sundeck, and a climate-controlled cabin (double glazing, heating, fleece blankets) so your private canal tour is comfortable whatever the weather.
Built for groups of 2 up to 12 (larger party boats available on request), our boats are small enough to glide into the narrow canals that bigger, crowded tour boats simply can't reach. Every private canal cruise is fully private and fully flexible — your route, your pace, your local captain — through the UNESCO-listed canal belt.
Choose a daytime sightseeing cruise or an evening romantic canal cruise. We specialise in intimate dinner cruises and proposal cruises, and any tour can be upgraded with a cocktail or cookie cruise, decorations, Champagne, or a photographer.
Transparent, all-inclusive pricing for your private canal cruise — captain, welcome drink, VAT and tourist tax already included.
Prices shown are final customer prices, including 9% VAT and €2.60 p.p. tourist tax. A small surcharge applies for groups larger than 4 persons.
On a sunny day, there's nowhere better than the sundeck of the semi-open Undine. If it starts to rain, the boat fully encloses, and the heating keeps things cosy in cooler months — making this a private canal cruise that works in any weather. Unlike our other boats, Undine's steering sits at the centre, so your captain can sit among your group and share the city's stories as you go.
Pick-up is available near Central Station at Oosterdokskade 8, with pick-up in front of or behind Central Station (Adam Tower pier) available on request. Hotel pick-ups can also be arranged.
Tzar is our starboard boat, with two steering wheels — one in the enclosed cabin, one on the open deck — so your captain can sit wherever suits your group best. The open deck is especially popular during the Amsterdam Light Festival in December and January, and just as loved through the warmer months. Visiting over the holidays? Pair your tour with our Christmas Canal Cruise.
Tzar is our most-booked boat for romantic canal cruises for two and surprise engagement proposals. Add a secret photographer and a bouquet of flowers to turn your private boat tour Amsterdam into a lifetime memory.
Ritz's mahogany interior gives this 1915 classic a nostalgic, one-of-a-kind character. Open the red window covers fully for uninterrupted canal views, or close them up — Ritz has a retractable roof at the rear, making it just as versatile in any weather. Ideal for romantic couples, dinner tours, or groups up to 12.
Whether you're after a small private boat tour for two or a private boat rental Amsterdam for a group celebration, our fleet seats up to 12 guests comfortably. Travelling with a bigger group? Get in touch and we'll help you find a suitable larger private canal boat.
Inside the fleet — narrow canals, minibar on board
Sunset cruise, prosecco on board
Not all boat tours are created equal. For over 10 years, Boatboys has been the trusted choice for couples, families and corporate guests looking for the best private canal tour in Amsterdam — with more than 1,000 private canal cruises delivered to guests from over 40 countries.
Our fleet of historic saloon boats — built between 1912 and 1920, fully restored to the highest standard — offers an intimate, elegant alternative to the large, crowded tourist vessels on the main canals. Every detail is considered: mahogany interiors, a stocked minibar, climate control, fleece blankets, and an open sundeck for guests who prefer the fresh air.
Every private canal cruise is led by an experienced local captain who doubles as your personal guide, sharing Amsterdam's hidden stories as you glide through the UNESCO-listed canal belt — with a flexible route and a welcome drink included as standard.
The route below is an example of what a full private canal cruise may include — the exact sights depend on your cruise duration and personal preferences. Your captain is happy to tailor the route to your wishes, whether you're celebrating a special occasion or exploring at a leisurely pace.
The grandest of Amsterdam's canals, lined with Golden Bend mansions built by 17th-century merchants. Your captain shares the stories behind these iconic facades.
Home to the Anne Frank House and the Jordaan district — some of the most atmospheric, intimate water in the city.
Opens into a breathtaking panorama: the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge) and sweeping views of the historic skyline. The perfect moment to raise a glass.
One of Amsterdam's most beloved views — a stretch of Reguliersgracht where seven arched bridges align in a single sightline.
Your captain guides you through the oldest part of the city — medieval churches, centuries-old canal houses, and the alleyways that defined Amsterdam's history.
Hundreds of historic facades lean and tilt — a charming result of soft soil and centuries of movement. A favourite for photographers on board.
"Highly recommend this private boat tour. The service was impeccable from booking through to the day of my engagement — they helped make it absolutely perfect."
"Our private tour exceeded all expectations. Incredibly personalised — our captain picked us up closer to where we were and dropped us off at our hotel. Communication was top tier."
"From their historic, perfectly maintained saloon boat to the wonderful tour of the city — we're telling all our friends not to miss a private canal cruise with Boatboys."
Onboard every private canal tour: a well-stocked wine cabinet with red and white wines, local beers, and a Nespresso machine for coffee and tea — alongside your captain's personal attention and local knowledge.
Every private canal cruise includes one welcome drink per person. Browse our full drink menu & prices for extras from the minibar.
Add a bottle of Gruet Champagne (€72.50/750ml), or upgrade to Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart, Dom Pérignon or Louis Roederer Cristal — the best canal cruise in Amsterdam for marking a special occasion.
Unlike larger tour operators running dozens of boats, Boatboys keeps a carefully selected fleet of three — so every private canal cruise stays personal, not mass-produced.
Float through the canals on our private dinner cruise Amsterdam while enjoying a multi-course meal on board. Seats up to 12 guests; for smaller groups, Tzar and Undine are the perfect choice.
Minimum 120 minutes for our private boat tour with dinner. Explore the dinner cruise menu →
We recommend 180 minutes for a 3- or 4-course private dinner cruise. Prefer daytime? Ask about our private lunch cruise, breakfast cruise, or the child-friendly pizza cruise.
From fresh oysters to a full à la carte spread, our partner restaurants serve restaurant-quality dishes straight to your table on the water.
To avoid the busiest canal traffic, cruise before 1pm or after 6pm. You'll see more of the canals outside peak hours. Saturdays tend to be the busiest day overall, as many privately owned boats are out on the water too.
If you prioritise comfort and personal service over budget shared boats, yes. Our fleet of vintage saloon boats — some dating back to 1912 — comes with a local captain who can double as your personal guide.
The Ritz has a restroom on board. On Tzar or Undine, we can make a stop if needed — for example at our partner restaurant during a dinner cruise — so you can use their facilities.
Customised pick-ups are possible on request. We regularly pick up at Waldorf Astoria, Pulitzer, Hotel Estheria, Rosewood, Hotel de l'Europe, Sofitel The Grand, Andaz, Hyatt, Amstel Hotel, Pillows Hotel Mauritskade, The Dylan and more. If your hotel isn't on a canal, we'll help find the closest pick-up point — please reach out before booking. A minimum cruise time or pick-up surcharge may apply depending on location.
Our small boats can navigate the most scenic narrow canals: the famous canal belt (Herengracht, Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht), the Dancing Houses, the Red Light District, the Anne Frank House, the Houseboat Museum, the Amstel River and more. Exactly what you see depends on your cruise duration.
We recommend at least 90–120 minutes to see the main sights — long enough for your captain to share local stories while covering most of the famous districts.
Yes, self-drive rental boats exist — but our private canal cruises are guided, covered and comfortable. Self-drive tourist boats come without commentary, weather protection, or local knowledge, and visitors can easily get lost in the canal network.
Our private boat tours start from €250 for the first hour, with each extra 30 minutes at €90. A small surcharge applies for groups larger than 4 persons.
Our boats comfortably seat up to 12 guests. Travelling with a larger group? Contact us and we'll help arrange a bigger private canal boat.
Small snacks or easy-to-eat food are fine. Outside drinks usually aren't permitted, as we offer a full onboard minibar — though we can apply a corkage fee per bottle if you'd prefer to bring your own.
The most scenic route takes in the Skinny Bridge, the Seven Bridges, the Dancing Houses, the historic canal belt, the Red Light District and the VOC ship.
Yes — all private boat tours need to be booked online in advance.
Unfortunately, our boats aren't wheelchair accessible. If a guest can step on board and uses a foldable mobility device, it's often possible to accommodate them — please contact us beforehand to confirm.
Up to 14 days before your tour, you can cancel for a 90% refund. Within 14 days, the booking is non-refundable, though we'll try to reschedule where our planning allows (not guaranteed).
All captains speak English and Dutch. Some also speak German (mention this in your booking comments). French guests can add an extra guide; Italian and Spanish may be possible on request for a surcharge.
